Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Golf Digest has named the course as “Best Conditioned” in the Western Cape for the past ten years. Since 2006 the course has consistently been placed among the top ten in South Africa and ranked as the 5th best in the country in 2018/2019 by Golf Digest magazine.
In true Nicklaus style, there are plenty of bunkers preying on errant shots. A challenging course where temperatures can reach 40ºC in mid summer
Arabella or “beautiful land” in Italian, is home to one of the top ranked golf courses in South Africa, with pristine undulating greens, tricky sand traps and challenging water hazards. Designed by Peter Matkovich, the golf course has been enjoyed by celebrities such as Samuel L. Jackson and professional golfers like Ernie Els and Gary Player.
The fabled 18-hole, Par 72 Championship course meanders along the Bot River and boasts amazing views. The 8th hole has been described as one of the most beautiful par 5′s in South Africa and the 18th hole was rated one of the finest finishing holes in the country. Not recommended for novice golfers.
One of the jewels of Cape Winelands golf, Erinvale is a ‘must play’ golf course nestled at the foot of the Helderberg mountains, with sweeping views of the Winelands and False Bay coastline. The Gary Player designed course was opened in 1995 by “the Master himself”, and since established its position amongst the top golfing experiences in the Western Cape.
The 18 hole course has an interesting and varied layout, and the back nine carved into the mountainside must be considered amongst the best in the country.
The De Zalze Golf Course is situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate, ideally positioned within the Stellenbosch region. The Estate boasts a working wine farm, as well as fairways surrounded by vineyards, olive groves & lavender fields, which will all produce marketable crops for the estate.
The 18 hole, platinum rated course, designed by Peter Matkovich, has an excellent mix of parkland holes, as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen river which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals. Suitable for all skill levels and boasts a delightful 19th hole.
Over more than 100 years the golf course at Royal Cape has evolved into what it is today, a classic parkland course that provides a fine test of golf as well as a wonderful playing experience. Opened in 1885 this course is steeped in history and tradition and received her Royal status from King George V in 1910.
Royal Cape is without doubt one of the best and most challenging courses to play both in the Western Cape and the country. It is a course of championship stature, playing to a par of 72, which has hosted the SA Open ten times as well as many other professional and top amateur events. Winners at Royal Cape include Gary Player, Ernie Els, Mark McNulty and Trevor Immelman. Current host of The Cape Town Open, which is sanctioned by the European Challenge and Sunshine Tours.
With spectacular mountain views, False Bay and the ocean as a focal point, it’s no wonder that Clovelly was one of Bobby Locke’s favourite courses.
A tight par 72 with a testing mix of interesting holes and elevated greens accompanied by beautiful views of Silvermine River and lakes. Natural water features and a wide variety of indigenous fauna and flora, notably the variety of trees lining the fairways.
Steenberg is the oldest wine farm in the Cape Peninsula, dating back to the days of Simon van der Stel. The golf course – consistently named one of the best conditioned courses in South Africa Golf Digest’s annual Top 100 – attracts golfers seeking a total golfing experience. Known for its hybrid plan, it offers traditionalists the opportunity to ‘bump and run’ (a rare shot in South Africa) in the rough around the greens, and to meet the challenges of strategically placed sand pits and waterways.
The 18-hole golf course was designed to make full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Its environmental diversity gives the course its unique character. A 5 star experience with spa, 2 restaurants and wine tasting on the estate.
Outstanding facilities are a feature of this 18 hole, 72-par, coastal golf course to its full-scale driving range and practice facilities, Atlantic Beach Links offers arguably the most spectacular setting in Cape Town with indigenous fauna and flora like springbuck and fynbos lined fairways teeming with birdlife.
Offering the most breathtaking, iconic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain, Atlantic Beach Links, designed and maintained by international golf architect Mark Muller, this 18 hole links type golf course is both stimulating and an interesting challenge. Not recommended for the novice golfer.
